A dial study
Dial study
Instead of a case study, we bring you a dial study. Most of the time, we know there will be another example of the same reference — like an Omega Speedmaster, a Rolex Submariner, or a Seiko Pogue. However, in this case, we are focusing on special dials that we know we won’t come across a second time. This could be due to their rarity, a tropical patina, or simply the exceptional condition of the dial.

Let’s start with some cool dials.
The first example that comes to mind is the Tissot Chessboard Dial. Even though it flies under the radar for most collectors, it’s a very special piece — specifically because of the dial. The no-lume, chessboard-patterned dial is in mint condition, with darker squares that appear depending on the angle. In addition, it features an Omega-based movement, case, and overall design.
Moving on, earlier this week we sold this Cartier Tank Solo with a Piano dial. These can still be found, but the dial on this one was mesmerizing. The piano pattern was clearly visible through the sapphire crystal, allowing us to appreciate the depth of the painted design.

The next piece features a very special dial. This Rolex Oyster Royal, although modestly sized at 32mm, has a truly stunning dial. It is divided into four quadrants with connecting diagonal patterns. That, paired with the 3-6-9 numerals, makes for a very attractive and rare configuration.

We also have a beautiful Datejust with a striking white enamel-like dial. The surface of the dial gives it the appearance of an enamel or porcelain finish. In addition to its rarity, it features sigma markings and exceptional lume.

And finally, we have a Seamaster 120 with a relatively standard matte dial, but in outstanding condition. It’s important to note that while we may have the same diver or chronograph in stock from time to time, condition is what sets this example apart from others we’ve had — or will have — in the future. This particular dial features perfect dark cream lume on the hour markers and hands, along with a flawless, clean matte surface.
