Produced for only a brief period, the Speedmaster ref. 105.002 is a rare transitional reference that came just before the legendary “Ed White” 105.003. It is estimated that only 2,000 examples were produced between 1962 and 1964.
Finding one in such original condition has been one of my favorite discoveries of the year. I came across this example in Mexico City just a few days ago. Its grey-toned dial has developed beautiful patina that really comes alive under the sun. Not perfect, but finding a 62-year-old Speedmaster this honest and largely untouched is becoming increasingly rare. Now available!
Condition & Specifications:
The 39mm case is in great condition, showing signs of minor polishing in the past and normal wear. The bezel insert also shows wear. The original bracelet is in good condition, with minor stretch. It fits a wrist of approximately 7 inches and features a clasp code dating to 1963. The manual-winding caliber 321 has been serviced and is running perfectly. A 48-hour inspection period is included, during which returns are accepted.
Notes:
I normally gravitate toward fully tropical dials, but this one really spoke to me. It reminds me of worn denim that has aged beautifully through years of wear. Something unique and unbothered, with its own character and a history of who knows how many adventures. There's something appealing about a watch that has simply aged on its own terms. A very cool early Speedy.
