Amazing Seiko diver from 1970, also known as the “Slim Willard.”
Its sibling, ref. 6105-8119, features a thicker and larger 44mm case and became widely known after being worn by Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now. These Seiko divers — including the 6105-8000/8049, often referred to as “Turtles” — were also used by U.S. soldiers during the Vietnam War.
This particular example stands out for its well-balanced and wearable case design, making it an excellent choice for the tool-watch connoisseur who appreciates a purpose-built, no-nonsense diver. It’s robust, honest, and full of character. As an added detail, it also makes a great birth-year watch for anyone born in January 1970.
The stainless steel case is in unpolished condition, showing normal wear consistent with a professional diver from the era. Remarkably, the bezel insert remains in great condition, retaining its original lume pip. The watch is fitted with an Uncle Seiko strap.
The black matte dial shows no imperfections. The hands have aged to a dark greenish tone, while the hour markers have aged to a cleaner, lighter shade, creating a pleasing contrast. All lume is original, and it’s increasingly rare to find vintage Seiko divers with lume this clean, as Seiko’s luminous material from this period often ages very dark.
This watch has been serviced and includes a service invoice along with a 1-year mechanical guarantee.
